EXCLUSIVE: Artists Film Group, the recently launched film investment and production company set up by Wes Hull (Zone 414), Robert Rippberger (The Inventor) and David Lugo (Welcome Home), has unveiled details on two of its debut projects.

The company has acquired sci-fi spec script Back Home, written by Anne Vithayathil, and has set Drew Van Acker (Pretty Little Liars) to star, with Drew Mylrea (Spy Intervention) attached to direct. The pic is a contained thriller with heavy VFX components and the team is fast-tracking with an aim to go into production in the fall. The movie will be produced by Hull, Lugo and Rippberger with Sunil Perkash (Premonition) and Van Acker.

“Back Home is a riveting thriller where the audience is always one step behind, guessing what will happen next. Director Mylrea’s vision can best be described as if Hitchcock made a modern sci-fi thriller where the audience delights in the created tension,” said Perkash. “We very much look forward to working with AFG to bring this unique mashup of sci-fi and whodunit to the big scream in the very near future.”

Artists Film Group is also producing the feature Those Who Walk Away, written and directed by Rippberger and starring Nils Allen “Booboo” Stewart Jr. (Twilight) and his father Nils Allen Stewart. The pic, billed as a high-concept horror themed around male sexual assault, is aiming to begin filming next month.

The company’s mission is to develop and produce both film and TV projects and to provide structured finance and debt financing to back them into production.

Scribe Vithayathil and Rippberger are both repped by manager Daniel Brandt at Plain-Text, Van Acker is repped by ICM Partners as well as by Luber/Roklin and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher, along with Mylrea and Perkash.

Actress Megan Fox got romantic in a new post on Instagram.

They were first linked in May, following Megan's split from husband Brian Austin Green.

Megan and Machine Gun Kelly went public with their relationship a few months ago, after meeting on the set of their upcoming film, 'Midnight In The Switchgrass'.

During a podcast, Megan had said, "I was like, 'Who is going to play this role?' And he was like, 'Oh, we just got Machine Gun Kelly', and immediately, I was like, 'Uh oh'. Because I knew I could feel that some wild s**t was going to happen to me from that meeting, but I wasn't yet sure what. I just felt it like, deep in my soul that something was going to come from that. So then, we met on set."

"Instead of a soul mate, a twin flame is actually where a soul has ascended into a high enough level that it can be split into two different bodies at the same time. So we're actually two halves of the same soul, I think. And I said that to him almost immediately, because I felt it right away," she added.

The Haunted Graduation Photo 2 is a horror film. Directed by Jiu Jiu.

Part of the fun of watching horror films (phim kinh di hong kong) about paranormal events is to see humble mortals outwit their ethereal adversaries. With ghost movies in China. That suspense double. As filmmakers continue to appease the country’s notoriously rigorous censors.

China’s film regulation apparatchiks have, in recent years. Allowed directors some leeway to stray from party dogma: the “gratuitous consumption of commodities”. And excessively saccharine romances are now deemed tolerable. But officials remain firm in other aspects of ideological doctrine.

Under the recently enacted Film Industry Promotion Law. So films that “promote cults and superstition” are banned. Because they go against the supposedly modern, materialist world view of the People’s Republic. Yet young, thrill-seeking audiences in China can’t get enough of such films.

The Haunted Graduation Photo 2 (Buc Anh Bi Am 2) is story about a group of graduating students. Head to a resort to celebrate. Once there, they start to encounter a series of bizarre and strange events. The first love of Su Liang. Who died unexpectedly. Starts to appear in visions and launches a bloody trail of vengeance on the friends. So they panic and try to escape.

Director James Gunn reveals that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 remains on track at Marvel Studios.

Fear not, fans of violent space raccoons and talking trees as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 remains on track at Marvel Studios. This, according to writer/director James Gunn, who recently confirmed as much on social media. Despite all of the delays currently plaguing major productions in Hollywood. It seems at least one highly-anticipated sequel, for the time being, has been unaffected. At least in terms of scheduling.

The subject came up when a fan on Twitter recently revealed that they have been seeing rumors pop up that the movie has been delayed. James Gunn got wind of the post and decided to chime in, assuring his fans that any information claiming that his next MCU adventure has been postponed is indeed inaccurate. Here's what Gunn had to say about it.

So there we have it. This is undoubtedly good news for Marvel Cinematic Universe fans in the sea of bad news that has been 2020. It's been truly brutal for the movie industry overall, but the MCU has certainly not been immune. Black Widow was originally supposed to hit theaters in March but had to be pushed to November, causing a huge shift in Disney/Marvel's Phase 4 and Phase 5 release plans. Further issues have led to more release calendar shuffling, with the MCU mapped out through most of 2022 at this point. And that is likely why Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hasn't been hurt by the situation the world finds itself in.

Quote:"Thanks, friend. I can confirm that the plans for when we're filming #GotGVol3 & when it's being released have not changed at all over the past year & a half or so. Any rumors otherwise are false. I appreciate your caution!"

At this point, given Disney's current release schedule for the MCU. It is unlikely we will see the sequel arriving in theaters before 2023. That means we still have roughly two and a half to three years before its eventual release date. With that, there is no reason to think cameras will roll before late 2021 at the very earliest. No matter when the actual dates are. The point is that the likely dates are far enough in the future that there is no need to push them back yet. This will also give James Gunn plenty of time to finish up work on The Suicide Squad, which is set to hit theaters in August 2021.

James Gunn directed the previous two installments in the franchise. Which earned a combined $1.63 billion at the global box office. Plot details are currently being kept under wraps but it is expected that the entire core cast will return for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. When last we saw Star-Lord and the gang, they were blasting off into space with Thor at the end of Avengers: Endgame, presumably to go look for Gamora. NBCUniversal has announced that the original eight Harry Potter movies will arrive on Peacock in October.

In the latest round of streaming service musical chairs, the Harry Potter movies are heading to a new home. NBCUniversal has announced that the original eight movies in the beloved franchise will be making their debut on Peacock in October. The service launched last month and will be getting a major boost this fall from the Wizarding World.

The Sorcerer's Stone, The Chamber of Secrets, The Prisoner of Azkaban, The Goblet of Fire, The Order of the Phoenix, The Half-Blood Prince and The Deathly Hallows parts 1 and 2 will all be available on Peacock. The company says the movies will be available for a six-month window into 2021. It's expected that the series will come and go over time. Which has become increasingly common for streaming services in recent years. Frances Manfredi, president of content acquisition and strategy at Peacock, had this to say in a statement.

Quote:"The Harry Potter franchise is beloved by people of all ages and represents the caliber of quality entertainment customers can expect to find on Peacock. We've built a world-class collection of iconic movies and shows, and we will continue to expand the film library with treasured titles from NBCUniversal and beyond that will surprise and delight Peacock customers time and time again."

HBO Max had the Harry Potter movies for a short while after it launched. The inclusion came as a surprise and was meant to help attract subscribers to the new service in the early days. However, the deal was short-lived. Even though HBO Max is owned by WarnerMedia. The parent company behind Warner Bros., the studio that produced the adaptations of J.K. Rowling's popular books, a deal was made with NBCUniversal for the rights back in 2016. It granted the company on-air and digital rights to the franchise through 2025. The deal was made before everyone in Hollywood decided to get into the streaming business for themselves.

With that, WarnerMedia cut a short term deal so that the Harry Potter movies could be available on HBO Max at launch. With the benefit of hindsight. It's likely Warner Bros. would not have made the deal. As Harry Potter is one of the crown jewels of the studio's empire. But the Chosen One will now be shifting over to Peacock. The difference with Peacock is that it has a free tier, which is ad-supported. Most premium streaming services do not offer a free plan. It costs $4.99 for premium, ad-supported and $9.99 per month without ads.

It does not appear that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them or Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald are part of this deal. They could, however, make their way to Peacock at some point down the line. So Harry Potter remains one of the most successful movie franchises of all time. Including the Fantastic Beasts spin-offs, the series has earned more than $9.2 billion at the global box office.

Using not one but two world wars as backdrops, Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen is an exhilarating kung fu romp. The movie is playfully sweeping, but its pivotal action sequences all focus on a single man: iconic hero Chen Zhen, here play by martial arts supernova Donnie Yen.

The fictional Chen is an enduring figure in Chinese action cinema, and the role has previously gone to both Jet Li and Bruce Lee. In fact Legend of the Fist (Tinh Vo Anh Hung 2) is sort of a sequel to Lee's 1972's Fist of Fury. In which Chen attack a Japanese martial arts dojo in Shanghai, exacting revenge on the men who murder his master.

According to the new movie, Chen then escaped to France as one of many Chinese brought to Europe as laborers during World War I. These workers weren't suppose to fight, but when Chen and his cohorts find themselves on the front lines. Our hero has no choice but to take out a German machine gun nest, solo and unarm. It's an action sequence in the classic Hong Kong style — ridiculous, yet elegant and stirring.'

After the excitement, Chen returns to Shanghai, assuming the identity of a friend who die in the war.

Disguise only by a fake mustache (and occasionally a mask). Chen settles in at the Casablanca, one of those wonderfully cinematic 1930s Shanghai nightclubs. That where Chinese, Japanese and European patrons mingle, flirt, drink and sometimes fight. The place is run by the quietly subversive Liu (Anthony Wong, who's among Hong Kong's most reliable character actors).

Chen plays the piano and falls for hostess and singer Kiki (Taiwanese stunner Shu Qi, charming in one. That of her less challenging roles). With Sino-Japanese antagonism on the rise, it's fairly obvious that Kiki doesn't share Chen's dedication to a free and independent China. Although it takes Chen, who's supernaturally alert to other dangers, a long time to notice.

Legend of the Fist (phim hanh dong vo thuat) was helme (and photograph) by Andrew Lau, who co-direct the much grittier Infernal Affairs. The source for Martin Scorsese's The Departed. Naturalism, though, is nowhere on Lau's agenda this time: Shot on sets and render in shades of blue, pink and mist. The movie looks as if it wants to be a musical. Even the Japanese army's "death list" is color coded: red for dead, blue for fled.

While Kiki sometimes coos a number, the film's two most-heard tunes are "Auld Lang Syne" and "The Internationale,". That neither design for hoofing.

But there's a little Gene Kelly in the gracefully choreograph action scenes. That often render in montage, and a bug-eye local police inspector (Huang Bo) serves as comic relief from the movie's villain, ruthless Japanese Col. Chikaraishi (Kohata Ryuichi).

The violence gets bloodier as the story proceeds, and Lau's depiction of roundups, torture and executions does convey the brutality of Japan's invasion of China. The movie is only slightly interest in history, however. Ultimately, all of Shanghai's resistance comes down to a single man. Who returns to the dojo for a showdown with Chikaraishi. The Japanese ogre is, of course, the son of Chen's adversary from years before.

If charge with not taking World War II very seriously, Lau and his collaborators would have to plead guilty. But Legend of the Fist is flashy and fun, and a nifty showcase for Donnie Yen (Chung Tu Don). The movie's fight choreographer as well as its star. Only historical literalists could be alarm that the movie ends with Chen Zhen on the road, apparently head toward a sequel. This review comes from

Avatar 2 was on track to arrive in December next year, but now the coronavirus pandemic is forcing us to wait an extra year for the anticipated sequel to James Cameron‘s sci-fi action adventure. Thankfully, producer Jon Landau is providing little tidbits of information about the sequels every now and then, and the most recent tease comes in the form of a couple pieces of concept art showing off a new multi-functional submersible vehicle used by the Resources Development Administration.

Avatar 2 Vehicle Concept Art

The official Avatar account on Twitter shared this concept art, revealing what is said to be “one of the many new RDA vehicles that will be seen in the Avatar sequels.” As you can see, the vehicle known as the Crabsuit takes design cues from a crab. There are even pincers up front, though they appear to be for grabbing things more than defense or finding prey.

But this vehicle doesn’t just crab-walk on land. It’s also a submersible, and here’s what it looks like underwater:

Honestly, this doesn’t look much different from some of the real manned submersibles that scientists use today to explore deep underwater ecosystems. In fact, James Cameron himself has gone underwater in vehicles like this to explore the Mariana Trench. We wouldn’t be surprised if this was a vehicle that production actually built and will soon be used for real deep sea exploration. That sounds exactly like something James Cameron would do. And it’s probably why the movies keep delayed. James Cameron keeps stealing the Crabsuit so he can go explore the ocean. It’s a real problem.

This isn’t the first new vehicle we’ve seen from Avatar 2. Late last year, we got a glimpse of a massive new aquatic vehicle called the Sea Dragon. It’s so big that several smaller vehicles can fit on its deck and inside of it. In fact, that first image of the Crabsuit just might be inside the hull of the Sea Dragon.

If you’d like to see more concept art from Avatar 2, which will be using a lot of underwater locations. You can head over here. In the meantime. We’ll just be waiting here patiently until we see the next piece of concept art from Avatar 2. Hopefully there won’t be any more delays in our future.

When Starship Troopers came out, it was mostly received as an action-packed sci-fi movie filled with gnarly alien bugs, plenty of graphic violence, and some nudity for the horny teens out there. But slowly people realized that even though the director of RoboCop may not be subtle. He’s certainly not bombastic enough to make such a hollow movie. Instead, as the Starship Troopers Honest Trailer reminds us. This is a smart satire of the propaganda of war and the stupid people who buy into it.

Starship Troopers Honest Trailer

It’s rather surprising that many didn’t realize this was a satire, especially with a child soldier among the rest of the poor man’s Master Chiefs. But all the satirical elements kind of feed into the B-movie style of the rest of the movie, especially when you have such monstrous bugs tearing people apart limb-by-limb. Hell, the big bad brain bug is nothing more than a vagina attached to a giant fleshy tumor.

For all you Starship Troopers fans out there. You’ll be happy to hear the film’s star Casper Van Dien making an appearance at the end. And he’s really tapping into that Johnny Rico temperament. Enjoy as he starts laying into the Honest Trailers voiceover guy before taking over the end for the cast roll call. It’ll make you wish that you were being enlisted in Rico’s Roughnecks.
Starship Toopers is available to stream right now on Netflix. Come on you apes, you wanna live forever?!

Nia DaCosta is taking the helm for Captain Marvel 2. The director of the highly anticipated Candyman reboot has been tapped by Marvel Studios to direct Captain Marvel 2. Making her the first-ever Black female director for a Marvel movie.

Deadline broke the news that Nia DaCosta. Director of the acclaimed drama Little Woods. And the upcoming Candyman reboot, has been tapped to helm the sequel to Captain Marvel. So DaCosta will be taking the reins from Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. Who wrote and directed the first Captain Marvel film starring Brie Larson as the titular Marvel superhero. So Disney and Marvel Studios had no comment, according to Deadline.

DaCosta “seemed to have the edge” over several individuals that the studio met with, Deadline reports. And with the filmmaker’s star rising with the hype for the Jordan Peele-produced Candyman. It seems like that tipped her over the edge. DaCosta broke out with the 2018 indie Little Woods. A heartbreaking neo-Western starring Tessa Thompson and Lily James. And would soon be tapped to helm the new version of Candyman, which is building buzz for its strong sociopolitical approach to the horror genre. But DaCosta’s work on Little Woods often overlook — a haunting slow-burner. It beautifully depicts a troubled sister relationship amid America’s ongoing opioid crisis. That kind of strong character writing can only help with Captain Marvel. A movie that hit all the beats of the Marvel formula but fell a little flat on the character (and action) front.

With Captain Marvel 2, DaCosta joins the elite group of female filmmakers like Chloe Zhao, Cathy Yan, and Patty Jenkins who are helming superhero tentpoles, as well as the even more elite group of Black filmmakers directing comic book movies (a group that includes Black Panther‘s Ryan Coogler and The Old Guard‘s Prince-Bythewood). But DaCosta is in a league of her own as the first-ever Black female director to helm a Marvel movie. And all eyes will likely be on her as she steps into the director’s chair for Captain Marvel 2.

Megan McDonnell, a story editor on the Marvel-based series WandaVision, has penned the script for the Captain Marvel sequel, for which Larson is set to reprise her role as Carol Danvers. The first Captain Marvel, which starred Larson as a human searching for her identity who gets involved in the war between the two alien races. The Kree and the shape-shifting Skrulls. So hit theaters in 2018 and grossed $1.128 billion at the worldwide box office.

So Captain Marvel 2 schedule for release on July 8, 2022.
